Small business youth employment event in Hull

Small businesses across Hull and East Yorkshire are being given a fresh opportunity to grow their teams, develop new talent and future-proof their workforce.

The ‘Future Talent and Recruitment for Small Businesses’ event will take place on Monday 1 June, 10am-1pm, at the MKM Stadium in Hull.

It has been designed to support small businesses in recruiting apprentices, trainees, and young talent, and is hosted by the Hull and East Yorkshire Combined Authority’s Growth Hub in partnership with the Hull & Humber Chamber of Commerce’s Local Skills Improvement Plan team.

Small businesses regularly face a number of barriers when recruiting an apprentice, including financial and operational challenges. This often results in a reluctance to explore the opportunity, which the Growth Hub want to change.

Attendees will have the opportunity to discover how apprenticeships and placements can work for their business, as well as explore the different routes to local talent.

Luke Campbell MBE, Mayor of Hull and East Yorkshire, said:

“This session has been built with small businesses in mind. We want owners, leaders and managers in Hull and East Yorkshire to have the confidence to invest in the next generation.”

Over a dozen training providers and support organisations will be in attendance as part of the event’s exhibitor marketplace, including the Department for Work and Pensions, Skills Bootcamps, the University of Hull, and a number of the region’s colleges and training providers.

The event will also break down the latest policy changes and funding opportunities to help businesses understand what support is available and how they can access it.
