Girl, 8, among three people found dead in Ballymena as police treat incident as ‘double murder’

The Police Service of Northern Ireland said the bodies of three people from the same family – a man aged 41, a woman aged 39 and a girl aged eight – were found in a house in the Old Cullybackey Road area.

Superintendent William Calderwood said officers were “met with a shocking scene”.

“I express my sympathies to family members and loved ones who are today left in total shock, and who will inevitably be struggling to come to terms with their unimaginable loss,” he said

“We await the results of post-mortem examinations and are keeping an open mind as to what has occurred, however a strong hypothesis is that this was a double murder followed by a sudden death. As such, at this stage we are not looking for anyone else in connection with the deaths.”

He said specialist officers were supporting the families of the deceased and liaising with the Polish Consulate. He added: “I would reiterate that there is no ongoing risk to the public.
