Joshua Kerry, 28, is accused of researching “targets” and travelling to the home of the Reform UK leader, attempting to gain entry.
Westminster Magistrates’ Court heard Mr Farage’s partner returned home to discover damage to the main front door on Sunday 20 April last year.
Part of the wooden door frame was hanging off and there was a bottle of lighter fluid in the porch, said prosecutor Kashi Malik.
He told the court a tool mark was found on the frame from a 27mm single-bladed edge.
Prosecutors also allege Kerry researched “prominent people and institutions” between 31 May 2024 and 08 July 2026, including identifying the home address of Mr Farage.
Kerry appeared in the dock wearing a grey prison-issue tracksuit, standing next to three dock officers to confirm his identity during a hearing which lasted less than five minutes.
He was not asked to enter a plea to a single charge of preparing acts of terrorism between 31 May and 8 July 2026.
Chief Magistrate Paul Goldspring remanded him into custody ahead of his next appearance at the Old Bailey on 9 October.
Kerry is separately accused of the murder of Ann Widdecombe, the Reform UK spokeswoman and former Tory minister who died at the age of 78 on 8 July.
Kerry was charged with her murder on 20 July.
