How Bradford will mark Armed Forces Day

Armed Forces Day celebrations will take place in Bradford city centre on Saturday, 28 June.

The event will open with a Drum Head Service led by Bradford Cathedral Clergy to be held by the memorial stones in Norfolk Gardens, Bradford at 11am. This is a multi-faith Service during which a makeshift altar will be formed using drums which will replicate the acts of worship which took place in the theatre of war. The West Yorkshire Fire Service band will perform.  All are welcome.

Following this there will be stalls and family friendly activities along with exhibitors from across the district providing information on the heritage of the district and showcasing work to preserve the memory of those who have served, including our local Covenant Partnership until 3pm.

Free family activities will be taking place including a climbing wall, face painting and other stalls.

The celebrations will begin for Armed Forces week, on Monday, 23 June with an annual flag raising ceremony in Centenary Square at 11am.

Lord Mayor of Bradford Councillor Mohammed Shafiq said: “This event allows Bradford residents the opportunity to stand together and celebrate the men and women, both past and present, who serve our country.

“I hope people come along and take part in the activities on offer and celebrate Armed Forces Day here in Bradford.”

Cllr Joanne Dodds, Bradford Council’s Armed Forces Champion, said: “This will be an excellent and enjoyable way for the people of Bradford and the district to celebrate the achievements and sacrifices of our armed forces personnel and their families. I hope to see people enjoying the activities and appreciating the stories.”
