Proposals for Beverley solar farm to power 24,000 homes

Enray Power has revealed early proposals for a major solar farm in Beverley.

The firm is proposing to develop the Molescroft Solar Farm capable of powering the equivalent of 23,945 homes to the north east of the East Yorkshire market town.

The site of the proposed 40MW solar farm is on the land north of Hull Bridge Road with plans suggesting the site would extend as far west as the Hull-Scarborough railway line. Crucially, the proposed solar farm is ‘temporary’ and would be expected to only operate for 40 years, after which the land would be restored to its original condition.

The firm says the site would help to fund “essential local services and infrastructure” by contributing approximately £2.5 million in business rates to East Riding of Yorkshire Council over its lifespan.

Enray’s website explains that effort would be put into protecting the diversity of the area. It is stated: “Existing hedgerows and trees will be retained and strengthened, providing valuable habitats and natural screening. In addition, new hedgerows and native trees will be planted to further support birds, small mammals and insects, contributing to a richer and more diverse local ecosystem.”

A public consultation has been set up to assess the public’s views on their plans. Following the consultation, which will close on Monday, August 4, Enray expect to submit a planning application this Autumn.

People can share their thoughts either at a drop-in event at Beverley RUFC, Beaver Park on Thursday, July 17 between 3pm and and 7pm or via an online survey that is available to access on Enray’s website.
