Coldplay concert success “showcased the best of what Hull has to offer”

The home of Hull KR welcomed Chris Martin and co for two sold-out shows this week. As well as being an opportunity for Coldplay fans to see the band live, the shows provided an opportunity for the city of Hull to shine on the world’s stage.

The exciting potential that comes with hosting such an event has not been lost on Hull City Council. Following the two shows, the LDRS approached the authority to gauge the success of the shows and whether the spotlight on Hull could lead to further, equally exciting, events in the future.

The Deputy Leader of the council, Cllr Jackie Dad, said: “It was fantastic to welcome tens of thousands of people to Hull to see the world’s biggest band over two amazing nights. We know that it will have provided a big boost for the city’s bars, restaurants, hotels and other businesses, as they showcased the best of what Hull has to offer.

“Our five-year Music Plan for Hull will now drive Hull’s reputation as a forward-thinking destination and a place to make and experience quality music, including at the many wonderful grassroots venues that will benefit from Coldplay’s support of the Music Venue Trust. Working with our partners across the region, we’ll continue to explore opportunities to bring acts of the calibre of Coldplay to Hull once again.”

The vision of the council’s Music Plan for Hull, which runs from 2025-2030 is as follows: “Music in Hull will play a strategic and active role driving Hull’s reputation as one of the world’s most progressive cities in community-led culture and heritage. Through collaboration, our city will be a global leader and be recognised as a forward-thinking destination and a place to make and experience quality music.”

The council has previously explained how, once it finally reopens in ‘early 2026’, Queens Gardens will be able to host large live events such as music concerts. Amidst its ongoing, over £21 million refurbishment, part of the gardens recently reopened to the public.
