Essential carriageway improvement works are scheduled to begin on Sunday, 31 August 2025 at Darley’s Roundabout on Boothferry Road in Hessle.
The works have an estimated cost of £123,000 and are part of an £18 million pound capital investment in highway maintenance by East Riding of Yorkshire Council.
The programme will run across five consecutive Sundays, starting on 31 August and continuing throughout September. The works will involve the removal of the carriageway surface and its replacement with newer, durable, and quieter surface materials, as well as replacement gullies and utility covers.
To ensure the safety of workers and maximise productivity, the roundabout will be fully closed during working hours, which are scheduled from 8am to 7pm on Sundays only. Signed diversion routes will be in place to guide traffic around the closure. Roads will remain open outside of these hours, and businesses in the vicinity will remain open during the works.
Councillor Paul West, East Riding of Yorkshire Council cabinet member for environment and transport said “We’re committed to investing in our essential infrastructure and ensuring the durability of our roads. We apologise for any inconvenience these improvements may cause, and are grateful for the community’s understanding while we carry out this scheme.”
