60 tonnes of waste removed from Hull Fair

Hull City Council has confirmed that a total of 60.6 tonnes of waste was removed from Hull Fair this year.

The street cleansing and waste operative teams worked throughout the event. Each morning from 5am to 9am, the team of 40 staff carried out street cleansing and waste removal duties on Walton Street, the fairground itself, West Park, and surrounding areas.

Each morning, two bin lorries were stationed at either end of Walton Street, before making their way down to collect waste and empty bins.

Ahead of them, designated team members cleared waste from beneath stalls using leaf blowers, before sweeping it into piles to streamline collection. Once the teams met in the middle, the entire area was thoroughly cleansed. This was repeated within the fairground itself.

Each day two to three members of the team were designated to collect recycling, such as carboard, plastic bottles, and cans. This recycling was taken to J&B Recycling for processing.

The site should be fully clear and restored by Wednesday 22 October.
