An exhibition celebrating the 1970s has opened at the Streetlife Museum.
Glam and Gloom: 1970s Britain explores the highs and hardships of life in the 1970s from seemingly endless strikes and power cuts to rising standards of living, holidaying on the Costa del Sol, glam rock and glitter pop and some of the greatest British TV of all time.
There’ll be the chance to discover more about the period alongside objects including TV and music memorabilia, fashion, toys and games.
The exhibition also includes people’s memories of the 1970s with photos from members of the public featuring in a digital display after a recent appeal made by the museum for people to send in their snaps.
Created by curator, Dr Gerardine Mulcahy-Parker, the exhibition will feature life in 1970s Hull alongside the national stories of the decade.
Councillor Rob Pritchard, portfolio holder for culture and leisure, said: “We have been overwhelmed by the fantastic contributions we’ve had from our residents to this brilliant exhibition.
“Their memories really do capture life in the city during the 1970s, offering a real personal touch. I look forward to seeing visitor reaction to this one – spotting familiar faces along the way!”
Glam and Gloom: 1970s Britain is on display at the Streetlife Museum from 10 July – 31 August and entry is free.
