A property developer has announced they have “ambitious plans” for the future of Hull’s former Debenhams building.
Property developer, DBG Group have announced they “officially exchanged contracts on the purchase of the former Debenhams building in the heart of Hull city centre.”
The colossal 180,000 sq. ft. site which spans from Prospect Street to Ferensway has been empty since May 2021. Despite closing their physical stores, the Debenhams brand moved online after being bought by Boohoo in a £55m deal.
It is still very much early days for any redevelopment of the site however the DBG Group have said they are “excited to bring it back to life.”
They added: “Our investment marks a significant step in redeveloping this prime space, and we have ambitious plans for its future.”
It remains unclear whether the site will become retail or residential units. The details of the planned redevelopment will undoubtedly become apparent in due course as steps such as the submission of a planning application to Hull City Council will likely take place.
