Leon Myers, Headteacher of Swinemoor Primary School in Beverley, has been named in the King’s Birthday Honours List 2025, for services to education.
Leon Myers has received the honour of Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) from His Majesty The King.
Leon said: “I am deeply honoured and surprised. I am also deeply humbled by the nomination, and by the effort that the community has put into supporting this. I hope that everyone at Swinemoor, especially the children, feel some pride in what has been achieved through hard work at our school.”
Leon has been a Headteacher in the East Riding for 20 years. He has been the Head of Swinemoor Primary School for 16 years and has achieved and maintained Outstanding recognition from Ofsted throughout this time.
Councillor Victoria Aitken, cabinet member for children, families and education said: “I am delighted that Leon has been awarded an MBE for outstanding contributions to education. This prestigious honour recognises his dedication, leadership, and tireless efforts for East Riding children and their families. Under his guidance, the school has achieved remarkable academic success, and he has inspired children to reach their full potential and I’m sure this will have a lasting impact on their lives, and also that of the local community.
