For several years East Riding Adult Learning and Employability have offered free Try taster sessions as part of their high-in-demand Try January campaigns. This year they’ve brought them back in September to kick off their 2024-2025 academic year.
A Try taster session is the perfect opportunity to try something new and it is completely free. They’re offering free sessions for subjects such as Crochet, Creative Writing, Dressmaking, Machine Embroidery, Photography, Self-esteem and Confidence Building, Spanish and many more.
One learner, Shirley shared “I even book my holidays around my courses”. Shirley loves to try new things at the Adult Learning Centres and enjoys the variety in learning opportunities.
Another learner, Dave stated, “I wish I’d done this 30 years ago”. Dave joined the courses on a Try taster session back in 2023 and is now studying photography, finally taking the photographs he’s always wanted to.
These Try taster sessions have welcomed 1000s of East Riding residents into learning something new over the years, allowing people to explore their creative sides, support well-being and even progress into gaining qualifications.
Councillor Anne Handley, leader of East Riding of Yorkshire Council, commented:
“Our Adult Learning service continues to be a vital resource for our communities. The Try taster sessions are a great opportunity to try something new and discover a passion for learning in a supportive environment without the commitment of having to spend any money.”
A free taster session is open to anyone age 19+ who can attend a course with Adult Learning at centres in Beverley, Bridlington, Cottingham and Goole. If you want to take part in a free taster session you can enquire about booking a session online at: https://eryc.link/adultlearn/Term1/taster
