People are being encouraged to have their say on a new transport plan for West Yorkshire as Mayor Tracy Brabin sets out her vision for the Weaver Network.
Work is already underway to transform travel across the region, with plans to take buses back under local public control, ambitions to get spades in the ground on a Mass Transit system by 2028, and a partnership approach to making the case for long-overdue investment in Yorkshire’s railways.
The Mayor’s new West Yorkshire Local Transport Plan sets out how future improvements will be prioritised through a vision for an integrated Weaver Network, bringing together buses, trams, trains and walking and cycling routes.
People are being encouraged to have their say on a draft of the plan during a 12-week public consultation.
Tracy Brabin, Mayor of West Yorkshire, said:
“We are creating a transport system that works for everyone, improving access to jobs and opening up new opportunities.
“This will deliver a seamless and reliable Weaver Network that makes sustainable travel the first choice and builds on the billions of pounds of transport investment we’ve already secured for West Yorkshire.
“By sharing your views on our local transport plan we can work together to create a greener, better-connected West Yorkshire.”
The plan, which is a statutory document, has been developed in partnership with the region’s five local authorities and once adopted will succeed the Transport Strategy 2040 agreed back in 2017.
Views shared during public and stakeholder engagement last year on the plan’s vision, principles and objectives have also been incorporated into the draft.
Leader of Bradford Council and chair of the Combined Authority’s Transport Committee Susan Hinchcliffe said:
“An integrated Weaver Network will be vital for us to deliver our region’s growth ambitions.
“This new plan sets out how investing in transport will create new jobs, connect people to opportunities and improve the health and wellbeing of our communities.
“Your views will be vital in shaping the final plan, which will support our vision for a stronger economy.”
