New family cycling event for Lister Park, Bradford

A BRADFORD park will become a “pedal-powered paradise” when it hosts a new family cycling event next month.

Ride Bradford will be held in Lister Park on Saturday June 21, with nearby roads closed off to create the ideal environment for cyclists.

It is hoped the event will inspire more people to get on their bikes and make cycling a regular part of their lives.

The event is being organised by Bradford Council alongside partners at Capital of Cycling and will be funded by West Yorkshire Combined Authority though the Active Travel England’s Capability Fund.

Cyclists of all ages will be able to ride around a specially marked out route throughout the park, taking in views of the iconic Cartwright Hall.

Inside the park will be a variety of family activities, including a custom-built pump track, mountain bike displays, bike security marking by West Yorkshire police, free minor repairs by Dr Bike, as well as food and information stalls. For those without bikes there will be a selection of bikes for people to have a go on, including adapted bikes.

Councillor Sarah Ferriby, Portfolio Holder for Health People and Places at Bradford Council said; “I’m very excited to announce the Ride Bradford 2025 in Lister Park in June. Cycling is such a great way to travel as not only is it good exercise, it’s environmentally friendly and low cost. Plus it’s fun that the whole family can enjoy.

“We want to see more people cycling in Bradford and are working with our partners at the West Yorkshire Combined Authority to improve cycling infrastructure. Events like this one and others like it will hopefully inspire more people to get on their bikes and start riding.”

David Robison, Director of Capital of Cycling said; “As a small local charity, Capital of Cycling is delighted to be involved in this ambitious event which will showcase some fantastic grass-roots cycling opportunities provided by community groups all over the District.  We want as many people to ride to the event as possible and led rides are provided from different corners of the district to join up in Lister Park.

“In this City of Culture year, this is a great event to share our pride in Bradford’s cycling culture past and present. Cycling in Bradford is for everyone, all ages, all shapes and sizes, let’s celebrate and make the turn-out huge!

Ride Bradford 2025 is a free event that runs from 11am to 3pm.

Those driving in the area are urged to plan ahead of their journeys due to the road closures.
