The Anlaby with Anlaby Common Parish Council has issued a statement on congestion issues related to Anlaby Retail Park. In its statement the parish council responded to concerns raised by residents reporting “chaos” on nearby roads.
After members of the Hull Traffic and Travel Facebook group described severe congestion caused by traffic going in and out the retail park last weekend, East Riding Council announced it had identified the area for a “potential review”. The volume of traffic visiting the shopping area had been causing “chaos” on Springfield Way during peak periods, according to residents.
A spokesperson from East Riding Council said the council was “aware” of the congestion issues and that “any improvement measures would be considered as part of future transport planning and prioritisation processes, in consultation with the local community, businesses, residents, road users, local councillors.” At the time, the LDRS also approached Workman LLP, the mangers of Anlaby Retail Park, for comment.
Soon after the news of the “potential review” into the area was reported on, in a statement, the Anlaby with Anlaby Common Parish Council said they are also aware of the issue; adding it is on a “list of highway improvements we want the East Riding of Yorkshire Council to undertake, as they are the highways authority.” The statement added: “As locals will know, this is an ongoing problem, especially as we approach Christmas, with the events of the weekend being particularly unique.
“We met with the local Senior Traffic Management Engineer in September 2024 about this and took her to this location, among others in the Parish, so she could see for herself the issues. We have followed this up constantly and again met with both the Traffic Engineer and the Head of East Riding’s Traffic and Highways Management recently.
“They are eager to get more projects like this into action but advised that there is simply not the funding available right now and that for the foreseeable future funds will be very tight for such improvement projects. That is, unless funds are routed via special schemes endorsed by central government.”
Their statement concludes: “Currently our main priority in the Parish is to get improvements to the pedestrian crossing outside the Leisure Centre on Springfield Way. We understand work is imminent to deal with the appalling road surface so we will be watching with interest and will be following up with the East Riding if nothing is done soon.
“We would also like to see improved signage at this location but as stated above funds are very tight at the moment. We will continue to lobby the East Riding on behalf of Anlaby and Anlaby Common to ensure we get a slice of any funding that comes available across the East Riding.”
