Residents are being encouraged to help local families in hardship over the festive period, by donating to the East Riding Food Poverty Alliance (ERPFA). Drop-off points will be located at East Riding of Yorkshire Council premises from Friday 28 November.
ERFPA have provided more than 360,000 meals to people in crisis over 2024-25 and is supported by East Riding of Yorkshire council’s regeneration and funding team and funded through the Household Support Fund.
ERFPA includes foodbanks across the region and East Riding Council has established donation drop-off points at its leisure centres, libraries and multi-service centres such as Hornsea Hub. Residents can also provide donations at council-run locations such as Bridlington Spa and South Cliff caravan park.
A wide range of donations are welcomed, including tinned goods, cereals, pasta, rice, snacks, and tea and coffee. Non-food items such as toiletries, household essentials, and pet food are also gratefully received and can make a huge difference to people in need.
Residents can also support food banks in their area through volunteering their time to assist with food sorting, packing or distribution, or making a financial contribution via ERFPA.
Councillor Lyn Healing, cabinet member for communities and public protection said, “The East Riding Food Poverty Allowance play a key role in supporting the vulnerable across our communities, and we’re proud to support their vital work.”
“We encourage residents to get involved and help out this Christmas, and throughout the year.”
Jo Ramsay chair of the East Riding Food Poverty Alliance said “Here in the East Riding of Yorkshire, hunger often hides in plain sight. It affects neighbours, colleagues, and families across our region.”
“Your support helps us provide not just food, but hope, dignity, and a lifeline to those facing hardship in our communities.”
