Refurbishments at Hull’s Costello Stadium underway

Costello Stadium’s running track will undergo several weeks of refurbishments from today, Tuesday 22 April.

A surface respray and specialist deep clean of the current track will take place, whilst necessary repairs and installation of a new surface overspray are planned.

The existing surface is in such a condition that major improvements are required to ensure the track’s long-term sustainability, including continued hosting of licensed athletics events affiliated to UK Athletics.

During the works, outdoor track and field activities at Costello Stadium will be unable to take place, however the stadium’s indoor facilities remain fully operational for use during this period including the public gym and fitness classes.

Alison Walker, director of leisure services at Hull Culture & Leisure, said: “This is an example of yet more great investment into our city’s leisure facilities.

“Costello Stadium and its track and field provision is extremely popular, so it’s pleasing that its long-term sustainability is being cared for.

“We appreciate that this may cause some temporary disruption for regular users of the running track, however we thank them for their patience and remind them that Costello’s indoor facilities remain open throughout the works.”

Upgrades to the running track will also allow Costello Stadium to continue to support delivery of the city’s ‘Toward an Active Hull’ strategy.

The refurbishment will be funded through Hull City Council’s capital programme from the Corporate Building Maintenance allocation.

Works will be done by Bernhards Sports Surfaces Limited and are due to be completed in early June.
