Rose Bowl Fountain area of Hull’s Queen’s Gardens reopens

A small area of Hull’s Queen’s Gardens has now reopened to the public.

Ahead of the Gardens’ full reopening in ‘early 2026,’ a small area of the Rose Bowl fountain section at the western end of Queen’s Gardens has now been reopened.

Despite the council previously stating the section would reopen in June, part of the Rose Bowl area reopened on Friday July, 11, meaning the public can enjoy some open green space in the city centre.
The area’s inner circle is now surrounded by high-quality granite, with blocks laid in a radial pattern, echoing the existing Rose Bowl planter walls which have also been restored. The opportunity has also been taken to refurbish the grassed sections surrounding the fountain.

The Rose Bowl fountain itself, which remains closed off, has undergone a full restoration including the installation of a new filter system.

Only a part of the Rose Bowl section is currently able to be opened as it is being used as the entrance for deliveries to the site. For this reason, the section as a whole will be one of the final elements to reopen. In the months before the Gardens fully reopen workers will be making their way from the Hull College end of the site towards the Rose Bowl.

Councillor Mike Ross, leader of Hull City Council, said: “The reopening of the Rose Bowl area marks another milestone in the continued enhancement of Hull city centre’s important green space.
“This restoration not only breathes new life into a much-loved local feature but also reaffirms our commitment to making Hull a vibrant and welcoming place for everyone.

“We’re delighted to see people return to enjoy the tranquillity and beauty of this area, and we hope it will continue to be a place for relaxation and enjoyment.”
