Schemes to tackle anti-social behaviour among young people in the East Riding

East Riding of Yorkshire council has marked anti-social behaviour awareness week by highlighting the opportunities it provides for young people in the county.

This includes regular Friday evening ‘twilight’ sessions, which provide a range of activities in the early evening for children and young people who may be at risk of anti-social behaviour. These sessions are held from 8-9pm at East Riding Leisure Beverley and Bridlington CYP, and provide football, dodgeball, tag rugby, cricket and other activities.

The sessions provide varied activities for young people aged 10-18, enabling them to socialise in a safe space, without risk of harm to them or the wider community.

A new fitness session is also available on Tuesday evenings from 7:30 – 8:30pm, for young people 14 and over at East Riding Leisure Beverley’s new outdoor facility, The Mill.

Additionally, East Riding council has been working closely with Goole Town Council and other partners in Goole to support the installation of floodlights at Goole South Park multi-sports games area (MUGA). This will support ongoing delivery of Tuesday twilight activity sessions in Goole for young people this winter and beyond.

East Riding anti-social behaviour officers have also engaged with young people at schools in Hessle, Anlaby, Bridlington and Goole. Officers have spoken to students about how they can be considerate in their local area and highlighted some of the good work that young people are doing in the community.

Lyn Healing, East Riding cabinet member for communities and public protection said “East Riding council is dedicated to providing safe and welcoming communities for everyone, including young people. Twilight sessions are great opportunities for young people, and I encourage everyone to check out the opportunities on offer and get involved.
