‘Tower of Now’ sculpture takes shape in Bradford

A towering new sculpture is being constructed in Bradford city centre ahead of its official unveiling on Saturday.

The Tower of Now by Saad Qureshi is a 15-metre-tall sculpture that has been commissioned by Bradford 2025 for the district’s City of Culture year.

It will stand in the new “parklet” on the former NCP car park site for a year.

The design has been described as being “emblematic of the city’s unique blend of history, architecture and industrial legacy”.

The neighbouring Norfolk Gardens park has been officially opened this week, and over the past two days, work has been underway to construct the Tower of Now, which has been delivered to the site in pieces.
The official launch of the sculpture takes place on Saturday.

To mark the unveiling, Bradford Central Library will host a free collage workshop on Saturday from 11am to 3pm.

The National Science and Media Museum will host a free “talking buildings” workshop that lets people “imagine the personalities buildings have and create playful animations together”.

That workshop also runs from 11am to 3pm.
