Whitby Traction Engine Rally is on this weekend

Nestled against the breath-taking backdrop of the iconic Whitby Abbey ruins, the Whitby Traction Engine Rally returns with more excitement and family-friendly activities than ever before. Just a 15-minute walk from Whitby’s bustling town centre and harbour, this year’s rally promises a perfect blend of history, entertainment, and community spirit from August 16-18, 2024.

A Spectacular Lineup of New Attractions and Classic Favourites

This year, the rally introduces the Little Nippers Lurcher & Terrier Show to its action-packed arena schedule. These energetic and skilled dogs will captivate audiences with their natural hunting abilities, accompanied by an informative and humorous commentary that is sure to entertain visitors of all ages.

In addition, Ridgeside Falconry will bring one of the largest mobile display teams in the country to Whitby. Visitors will have the chance to witness these magnificent birds of prey, both native to the UK and from around the world, showcasing their awe-inspiring flight and hunting skills.

The Scarborough Fair Collection makes a welcome return with its stage show production. This lively mix of singers, dancers, and magicians will perform at regular intervals over the three days, providing a continuous stream of entertainment for all attendees.

A Feast for the Eyes and Ears

Beyond the arena, the rally grounds will be filled with a stunning array of exhibits. Massive traction engines, vintage cars, classic motorcycles, military vehicles, and miniature steam engines will be on display. The tractor pulling area promises high-octane thrills, while fairground organs will add a nostalgic soundtrack to the event.

For those interested in historical machinery, there will be stationary engines, working displays featuring sawbenches and threshing equipment, and an impressive collection of vintage tractors and commercials, including lorries, buses, and fire engines.

Fun for the Whole Family

The rally isn’t just about engines and displays. Attendees can explore a variety of trade stands, craft marquee demonstrations, and the autojumble and antiques/collectables market. The children’s corner, featuring inflatables and trampolines, ensures that younger visitors have plenty to enjoy.

The modern funfair, live bands, and various catering outlets—including a licensed bar and fine food marquee—will keep everyone entertained and well-fed throughout the weekend.

Saturday Night Spectacular

Saturday evening is set to be particularly memorable with a performance by the steam fair legend Dr. Busker, who will play a mix of iconic favourites. The night culminates in a dazzling fireworks display, a highlight that visitors won’t want to miss.
