York’s iconic Bar Walls will be bathed in a purple glow on Friday evening (26 March), to raise awareness of epilepsy.

Epilepsy can affect anyone, of any age, race, or sex, at any time from any walk of life. Over 60 million people in the world are affected by epilepsy, with 600,000 affected in the UK alone.

‘Purple day’ is an annual event which aims to get people talking about epilepsy, raise awareness of the condition and help to raise funds.

Cllr Carol Runciman, City of York Council’s Executive Member for Health and Adult Social Care, said:

I hope that lighting up York’s Bar Walls will encourage people to get talking about epilepsy, helping to promote more open and positive attitudes to this challenging condition.
