Police are investigating after an 11-year-old boy suffered facial injuries when he was assaulted in York.

The victim was punched in the face and throat and thrown to the ground after being approached by a group of 10 to 15 youths in a park.

He was taken to hospital for a check up and suffered a potential broken nose from the attack, which police believe was unprovoked.

It happened at Hull Road Park near Flaxman Avenue, York, between 4pm and 4.30pm on Tuesday, 1 September.

The main suspect, who is a youth, is described as white with a tan, short black spiked hair as is around 5ft tall and medium build. He was wearing a white polo shirt and dark jeans.

Police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone has CCTV in the area which may have captured the perpetrators on their way to or from the park.
