Community groups across Hambleton are being reminded that they have just three weeks to apply for a share of £250,000 from the district Councils ‘Making a Difference’ fund.

“This grants scheme helps local groups across Hambleton bring forward projects that they cannot afford to fund themselves,” said Council Leader, Councillor Mark Robson.

“We have decided to double the amount on offer – last year was very hard  on all our communities and we feel this might give them the lift they need to get projects off the ground in the spring.   The amounts we award may be small but the difference to the community can be massive.”

Since the scheme started in 2015, 216 projects have received help - including projects to develop village halls, sports clubs or play areas as well as those that support people with mental health, loneliness and isolation issues and young people with disabilities.

Hambleton’s five market towns of Bedale, Easingwold, Northallerton, Stokesley and Thirsk, plus their surrounding villages, each have £50,000 to share out.

Each application needs to show it will make a genuine difference to people’s lives,   demonstrate value for money and meet at least one of the councils priorities: driving economic vitality, enhancing health and wellbeing, caring for the environment or providing a special place to live.

All applications must be supported by the local Ward Councillor, with Cabinet Members giving the final approval for accepted schemes.

Applications close on of 31 January with a decision on which applications have been successful expected in April.
