August 27, 2020

A man has been arrested in London on suspicion of war crimes relating to the first and second Liberian civil wars between 1989 and 2003.

The 45-year-old was detained by officers from the Met Police War Crimes Team on suspicion of war crimes, contrary to section 51 of the International Criminal Court Act 2001, Scotland Yard said.

He was arrested in southeast London at around 7.20am on Thursday and has been taken into custody at a central London police station.

Police said the arrest follows an allegation of offences relating to the first and second civil wars in the African nation between 1989 and 2003.

Officers are searching an address in southeast London and inquiries are ongoing.
