Amen Teklay: Teenager in court charged with Glasgow schoolboy’s murder

Amen Teklay, who was an Eritrean refugee, was seriously injured in Clarendon Street at about 10.30pm on 5 March.

Emergency crews attended, but the schoolboy was pronounced dead at the scene.

A murder investigation was subsequently launched following a post-mortem examination.

On Sunday, a 16-year-old boy was arrested and charged in connection with Amen’s death.

The suspect appeared before Glasgow Sheriff Court on Monday, where he made no plea to the single charge of murder.

The boy, who cannot be identified due to legal reasons, was remanded in custody and is expected back in the dock within the next eight days.

The teenager is the third suspect to be arrested and charged in connection with the case.

Two other Glasgow boys, aged 14 and 15, appeared before the same court earlier this month.

The 14-year-old was charged with murder, while both were accused of assault and carrying an offensive weapon in a public place.

The teenagers made no plea to the charges.
